Here we are offering a one of a kind hippy style purse / sachel owned and used by JANIS JOPLIN, along with a Letter of Authenticity from Mickey Deans, who was one of Judy Garland's husbands.
Truly a one of a kind Janis Joplin collectible for the diehard Janis Joplin collector. We recently learned more about the history of this sachel / purse. Linda Gravenites, wife of Nick Gravenites (An American blues, rock and folk singer, songwriter, guitarist best known for his work with Electric Flag, Janis Joplin, Mike Bloomfield and several influential bands and individuals and individual bands of the generation springing from the 1960s and 1970s), was a close friend and designer of Janis's stage costumes and other items. We were told by a very good source that she most likely made this one of a kind purse / sachel for Janis.
This very cool, multi-colored purse / sachel was both owned by and used by Janis Joplin. It is multi-colored on one side and black fabric on the other side. There is a main compartment as well as a zippered section. It even has a very slight perfume smell! It measures approximately 6 inches by 7 inches without the strap.
Additional History about this piece:
Back one night in the 1960's (see letter of authenticity from Mickey Deans), Janis gave this purse / sachel to Promoter Mickey Deans in a Nightclub he was managing in England. As well as being known as a Promoter, Mickey Deans was also the last husband of Judy Garland, famous movie star and singer (remember her in The Wizard of Oz?). Janis was in a nightclub in England, not sure if she was performing or not, that was run by Mickey Deans. Now, on display in this club was memorabilia hanging on the walls that belonged to famous performers. So she decided to donate this purse / sachel along with a few other items of hers, to be put on display in this club along with other performer's memorabilia. Included with this item is a letter of authenticity (LOA) signed by Mickey Deans, stating items given to him from her for display in the club. The letter has also been notarized.
Don't miss out on this fantastic one of a kind purse / sachel both owned and used by Janis Joplin! So much history behind it for one of the most famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
